Syrian Families still need your help

Your donation will provide the essentials they need to survive.

Red Cross Red Crescent teams are in Syria right now, providing families with essential aid. Every month they reach more than five million people with life-saving assistance.

Please donate today and help the millions of people who still need our support. Your donation can help provide:

• distribution of food, water and other relief items such as shelter, mattresses, blankets and hygiene kits
• providing ambulance, first aid services and support to health care and clinics
• working with our Red Cross Red Crescent partners in neighbouring countries to provide assistance with emergency health, relief and recovery support to displaced people
• psychosocial support for trauma survivors
• sending specialist aid workers to assist in assessments, relief and recovery operations.

With your donation, our colleagues at Syrian Arab Red Crescent rebuild infrastructure like health clinics and water systems; support families to find new ways to make a living; and, continue to negotiate access to communities trapped in besieged towns and cities. Over 11 million people need humanitarian assistance. Of these, five million are in urgent need of life-saving help. Your generous donation can bring hope and help to those who need it most.

About the Syria Crisis Appeal

After eight years of conflict, the crisis is far from over.

Close to 12 million people require humanitarian aid in Syria. Of these, five million are in urgent need of life-saving help. Half the country’s health facilities are out of service or damaged, and more than two million children are unable to attend school.

Ongoing and emerging conflict in the Northwest and Northeast is endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of families. Water and electricity infrastructure are being destroyed, which will only make matters worse for many who have already suffered so much.

Red Cross Red Crescent teams are providing food, clean drinking water, blankets and mattresses to families who have been forced to flee. They are working around the clock to provide first aid, basic healthcare and ambulance services to those sick or injured, as well as working to rehabilitate damaged water systems. At the frontline of the response are our Syrian colleagues from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society, with support from the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network.

We are also calling on all those participating in the fight to spare civilians, not target healthcare facilities and civilian infrastructure and to allow safe, guaranteed access to people in need by humanitarian organisations.

Funds raised and donated will provide humanitarian support to people and communities affected by the Syrian crisis by:

  • providing ambulance and first aid services and support to health care and clinics
  • distribution of food, water and other relief items through Syrian Arab Red Crescent
  • working with our Red Cross Red Crescent partners in neighbouring countries in providing assistance with emergency health, relief and recovery support to displaced people
  • sending specialist aid workers to assist in assessments and relief and recovery operations.

Australian Red Cross will not deduct more than 10% of any Syria donation for an international appeal to cover appeal and administration costs. Should the funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, Australian Red Cross will direct the excess funds to other emergency response and recovery initiatives in the Middle East. Any interest earned on donations will be invested back into the appeal.

Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.

We are unable to accept donated goods. As with all emergency appeals, the best and most effective way to help people is by donating cash to charity. The cost of shipping donated items from Australia would far exceed the cost of purchasing them in bulk closer to Syria, from quality suppliers, and packing and delivering them from our Syrian warehouse.
People concerned for the welfare of family and friends in the region, should first attempt to contact them directly. If the person overseas is an Australian citizen, they should call the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135 (for enquirers in Australia) or +612 6261 3305 (for enquirers overseas).
